Estate Agents in the UK: Make them transparent now.
How many of us have found ourselves in phony bidding wars? We are told by an estate agent that there's someone else with a higher bid, so we need to raise our price. The estate agent is paid on a % of total sale price of course.
It's high time the government required these pirates to show proof of a rival bid, so we can see for ourselves it is real.
Anything less is an invitation to abuse and rip off. Which is precisely what happens. over 2 years ago via web
They should introduce the same system of bidding/buying property as in Scotland " sealed bids at 12 noon " submitted to the solicitors office. It would put an end to phoney bidding and the mythical 'someone else with a higher bid' tactic. In Scotland the highest offer is binding, so buyer and seller both know exactly where they stand and can proceed with confidence knowing the deal is done.
The English system is barbaric and worrying for both seller and buyer as neither knows until the eleventh hour if the missives will be exchanged or not. over 2 years ago via web

about Virgin Atlantic
I was unable to use my frequent flyer points to book a flight with Virgin Atlantic even though there was availability on the flight. I was told that the the quoter for people booking with points had been reach. Why have a limited number of seats for those using points?? Shouldn't we get priority because we have earned the points? over 2 years ago via web
Hi, I found years ago that this was the case. A useful tactic that may still work is to book everything then only reveal that you are using miles at the payment stage. Then you can legitimately say that you were mislead and that it was not in the small print of your frequent flyer program. It used to work with BA, dunno about now because I am no longer a high flyer!

I hardly ever use Internet Explorer now, only when Google Chrome seems to be a little flaky. I notice that it's pushing the 'Ask' search engine - and toolbar, which I've already removed - at me. I don't want pushy. It's rude.
Microsoft, please stop being rude.
It's not all about money, you know.

I suddenly keep getting a message from Microsoft telling me my firewall isn't on (which it is) but when I click to check, its just a sales tactic. Back off please Microsoft, stop insulting our intelligence. If we need you we'll call. over 2 years ago via web

Very good point Scotty, why not indeed? Could it be because England has a case of "not invented here" going
on? Either way it's difficult to understand because Britain has been run by a pair
of Scottish fellows for the past decade or so. The Scottish system much fairer to everyone except estate agents (they'd argue) but that lot need help to stay honest and at the moment they only have an incentive to cheat for their firm's gain and their own in terms of bonuses and cheeky opportunities to flip the best property deals they come across.
NB before anyone turns this into an England v Scotland rant: (1) I am English but like Scotland a great deal (2) this is about estate agents and a better deal for English buyers and sellers. over 2 years ago via web
