Do a shop, get to the till and pack your bags. If they try and charge you for bags, be prepared to walk away leaving your items at the till. about 2 years ago via web

Mr Chris

Surely, being aware in advance of the bag charges, you could make this decision before you got to the till? Or, you could even bring some bags with you. translation missing: root.datetime.distance_in_words.almost_x_years ago via web

Supermarkets operate a clear 'punishment/reward' system. Sainsbury and Tesco incentivise customers by rewarding them for using their own bags. M&S charge people 5p and 'pretend' they care about the environment. If they really cared they would supply paper bags instead of their flimsy bags which break at the mere sight of food.

Basically, we are paying for M&S's corporate social responsibility policy and environmental PR strategy. I say, sod off.

On the plus side, I think it's wonderful they don't charge you for a receipt - yet. (and on that note, why do I need a receipt for a packet of sweets - haven't they got the technology to let the customer decide if they want one and save on paper.)

It might be their policy to charge for bags, but it's my policy that a bag (if needed) should be free as part of the service you would expect in a supermarket. about 2 years ago via web
