My friends couldn't get to their destiny, but at least they didn't live this nightmare: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8422305.stm over 2 years ago via web

about First Capital Connect
the first capital connect 8.07am train from Sydenham Hill was a very welcome and popular addition to our schedule - prior to this to get anywhere other than Victoria we had to change at Herne Hill. Unfortunately in the past few months it has become so incredibly unreliable - I had hoped to catch it to St Pancras yesterday to get to a meeting on time. Cancelled. Not a soul on the platform was surprised because almost every day this train is either cancelled or severely delayed. You can then risk changing at Herne Hill after taking the Southeastern service to Victoria (which is marginally more reliable). I say risk, because there is every chance that *all* the First Capital Connect trains are either cancelled or so severely delayed that they don't even bother putting an estimated arrival time on the boards.
If this is *ever* explained it is always staff shortages.
this has been going on for months, it is a completely unacceptable level of service and needs to be sorted out. Just pay the people extra to work on Sunday. That seems entirely reasonable to me. (That's what this is all about, isn't it?) over 2 years ago via web

Was a nightmare where the reserved seats for myself, my wife and my 3 year old child were already taken by someone because the previous train had been cancelled.
Train cancellations seem to be more frequent than ever on National Express East Coast.
And it has all these awful knock on effects. over 2 years ago via web

Government anger at train drivers' dispute
Press Association
guardian.co.uk, Thursday 12 November 2009 23.02 GMT
The government criticised "irresponsible" action by train drivers tonight after staff shortages caused travel chaos for passengers on some of the busiest routes in the country. Half of services between Brighton and Bedford run by First Capital Connect (FCC) were scrapped as drivers declined to work voluntary overtime, with similar disruption expected tomorrow. Aslef is balloting its 550 FCC members for industrial action over pay, threatening action just two weeks before Christmas. The company said it had made a fair pay offer to union representatives of 0% this year and at least 3% in 2010.
