I would like to propose that Transport for London draft an official letter countersigned by Mayor Boris Johnson and Commissioner Peter Hendy as well as the MD of London Underground apologising when people are late due to the tube, this can be redeemed from London Underground staff or people could nominate a work e-mail address for this to be forwarded to. I know employers are aware of the parlous state of the Tube but diligent punctual Londoners subject to the unreasonable vagaries of our metro system should not have to apologise when they are essentially blameless; that is the job for corporate communications. And I also want an apology when I hear the words 'there is a good service on all London Underground lines' when I have been waiting over 10 minutes for a Circle Line! This is an insult which one of these days will provoke a not-so-quiet-riot... In Tokyo or Moscow 'good service' means a train every 2 or 3 minutes. about 2 years ago via web

I take a train from vauxhall to clapham Junction around 8:40 in te morning, and then catch the 8:52 from Clapham to working (the train is actually to portsmouth or something)
the 8:52 never departed at 8:52. except for when the 8:40, 8:42 and 8:46 from vauxhall to Clapham are delayed and I miss it. NEVER. over 2 years ago via web

I use South West Trains to get to and from work. I would estimate three out of five days a week my journey is delayed (generally without explanation). A few days a week the train has fewer carriages than it should, meaning no seats and sardine like conditions.

The staff are friendly but often clueless as to why the problems are occurring (and frequently sound as frustrated as we the passengers are about the problems).

I pay £200 for this shoddy service. Sort it out, SWT - stop paying for machines and staff to check my ticket four times in the space of a 30 minute journey and invest your resources in more trains that run on time!! over 2 years ago via web

As the great Van Morrison sings, "got:a house on the hill |
An' money in the bank | An' cars in the driveway | An' coloured TVs |
An' mobile phones | An' computer programs, yeah | So tell me baby
How come we're still on the chain gang?"

Or less poetically, how come it takes an hour and 15 minutes for SWT to work out a) there's a broken train up the line b) decide to get us buses to Bournemouth?

That's around 400 person-hours, 50 person-days, wasted (so fa: there may be updates) because they don't seem to have a system to speedily respond in place?

Here's Chrissie on the same subject; although I doubt she has much experience of public transport these days...

This congestion is due to leaves on the track. Although you've got to admire "Driver's walked off to collect the kids from school" for the sheer cheek...

"This train is delayed due to congestion" --- please, you've got a whole track in front of you, all to yourself! Argh! over 2 years ago via web

umm actually no....we dont have a whole track to ourselves as you seem to think. A massive amount of freight uses the line between stratford and acton wells... it would be fair to estimate that 25-30% of the train movements on the north london line are freight. Hopefully in the future as more routes become available then the amount of freight will be reduced. over 2 years ago via web
