Morrisons have implemented the worst ones yet. The scanners can only read one barcode in every five first time, the scales are totally unable to detect the right weight, the area for bagging is too small to fit anything larger than a box of 6 eggs, and there's no chance of using your own bag.

The process for correcting any form of problem is useless and requires an assistant for anything.

My local Morrisons replaced two human tills with four of these machines about 3 months ago. It now takes an absolute minimum of 5 people to handle the errors and the queue for them when they're all in use.

I refuse to use them any more, and if there are not enough tills open, I dump my basket and walk out. about 2 years ago via web

What a nightmare, trying to use the express tills as at 7am I usually find the tills are unmanned and I only have a few items anyway. Well this morning was just a joke 6 machines in use about 20 people trying to get through all having problems with 1 member of staff running from 1 to the other because items dont scan or items are not even listed. Its really hard to use one of these checkouts if you have anything else in your hands. I frequently have other bags with me when shopping but at self service checkouts there is no where to put them while you are serving yourself! Also self service checkouts are a hassle to use if you are buying alcohol because you have to show ID to a real person. They also encourage the use of the plastic bags that are already there, rather than putting your shopping in a reusable bag that you have brought yourself. over 2 years ago via web

If I get another "unexpected item in the bagging area" then I am gong to explode...Tesco need to have enough staff around (or at least paying attention...) to sort problems 'with the over-sensitive bagging area' more quickly.
